I got to draw Mistral! With April showers as a theme, yeah rain! Glad to see the snow leave. I have to appologize because I feel like the image puts Mistral on the back burner (so to speak) with the primary focus being the backing theme instead. You wouldn't know it was Mistral if I didn't say! I feel kinda bad
I had this grand plan to try a triptic type piece with a sense of motion with the dragon moving through each piece. As per the way I'm moving through with my traditional studies I'm aiming for mood, depth, and a play on color. As the image developed the objects stopped making any sense with the exception for the center piece. I tried a lot of different ways of working all of which either didn't contribute to the image. Couple examples would be another mini-dragon that lacked any kind of visible detail or a large image of Mistral that took up a good portion of the image (origionally planned) that ended up looking so awkward that the image lost all meaning and connection.
Mistral has so much lovely detail I wanted to do an awesome detailed busty type thing but I'd end up in the exact same postion (lol sooo theres a dragon, whats the theme? XD) but dead lines here, I'll just continue on
Summers here, which doesn't mean more free time, but does mean I have less priority work; so I think a make-up piece is in order for later
That's a very nice peice. Breaking it up into three panels is a great effect. I love the swirling tendrils of cloud as she burst's through in the second panel. If the colors were more oranges and golds instead of blues and violets it could almost be a companion peice to this one [link]

Thank you! I've always wanted to do a triptec of some sort; at least digitally - its not some thing I see very often. Although I cheated by started out with a whole piece & splitting it up later in the design process
Thanks! I tried to add some oranges but I needed the contrast between the calm & sunny to the tense darkness. The sun looks fairly low in my image, though, so it can still work
